War Numbers: The Cost of War Takes it Toll on Washington State

The taxpayers of Washington State have paid $23.8 billion toward the Iraq and Afghanistan wars since 2001. 

Unfortunately, one can only imagine what good $23.8 billion can do for the people of Washington.

For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided:

3,769,403 People with Health Care for One Year OR
441,658 Public Safety Officers for One year OR
382,782 Music and Arts Teachers for One Year OR
3,089,078 Scholarships for University Students for One Year OR
4,281,295 Students receiving Pell Grants of $5550 OR
131,278 Affordable Housing Units OR
9,583,365 Children with Health Care for One Year OR
2,678,524 Head Start Places for Children for One Year OR
388,572 Elementary School Teachers for One Year OR
21,167,104 Homes with Renewable Electricity for One Year

The United States Census Bureau estimated our state population at 6,664,195 in 2009.
